A Summer Arrangement: Object & Thing at LongHouse will be open from May 27–September 3 at the home and sculpture garden of celebrated textile designer and collector, Jack Lenor Larsen (1927–2020), in East Hampton, New York.

Larsen built LongHouse as a case study for a creative approach to life, believing that works of art displayed in a living space would be more relevant than in a museum or through media. Inspired by the 7th century Shinto shrine at Ise, Japan, Larsen worked with architect Charles Forberg on the design of the house, which was completed in 1992. A Summer Arrangement is inspired by Larsen's non-hierarchical approach to objects and will bring together contemporary works, including site-specific commissions, of both art and design. All of the works will be made from materials akin to those in Larsen’s collection, such as ceramic, fiber, glass, metal and wood. Situated within the summer living room, gallery and guest level of LongHouse, the exhibition extends Larsen's practice of arrangement as an art form in its own right.

The project is a unique collaboration between LongHouse and Object & Thing, with a project team that includes: co-curators, Glenn Adamson, LongHouse curator-at-large, and Abby Bangser, Object & Thing founder; alongside Colin King as installation designer. A percentage of sales from the exhibition will be donated to LongHouse Reserve, a non-profit arts and educational institution.
